I'm loving my internship with Soledad at Sol Print Studios. I get to practice and perfect my process as I assist contemporary artists in 4-day workshops. What's more, Sol's innovative approach to print inspires and informs my own practice. I've learned a lot during my time here - solar etching, sewing, incorporating alternative materials and transparency into my works, etc. Also, Intern artists are treated really well here - rides to the printshop and back are always offered, and healthy, delicious lunches are common occurrences. This is an internship like no other.

Sol Print Studios has the type of environment that we only stumble upon a few times in our lives…if we’re lucky. It’s a professional space filled with encouragement and experimentation from Soledad Salamé herself. I had fun everyday with Soledad, Mariska, Mike, and friends and colleagues that would stop by to offer their opinions and advice. Everyday there was a new challenge to overcome with creative solutions. As soon as I started working at Sol Print Studios, I felt like a part of the team. My suggestions were just as appreciated as others, and my opinions were always validated. I never felt like the stereotypical intern, I always felt included. We worked on several projects at the same time so I got experience in many different kinds of printmaking. For one of the projects, we went to George Mason University in Virginia to make paper and do some pulp painting. During my time at Sol Print Studio, I learned so many different techniques that I never even knew existed. I knew nothing about printmaking when I first contacted Soledad, and by the end of the summer I felt confident printing on my own. It was such an eye opening experience and I learned more than I ever could have hoped for.
